Local Area For book lovers, Hay offers nearly 30 various bookshops, selling both new and second-hand books, and is a haven for anyone interested in literature. It is renowned for the Guardian Hay Festival (25th May - 2nd June 2007) which offers a range of lectures given by a wide variety of speakers. Hay-on-Wye also has an abundance of antique and gift/craft shops, art galleries, restaurants and cafes.
